The name says it all. The band exists for 12 years now, but no one will mistake it for anything other than the Noel Gallagher band. Maybee you can take the lead vocalist and guitarist out of Oasis, but you can't take Oasis out of Noel Gallagher. So, the Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds is all about, well, Noel Gallagher.
And if it somewhat looks like a Gallagher material, sounds like a Gallagher material, and performed like a Gallagher material, maybe it's just an Oasis material without brother Liam. Well, Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds consists of: Gem Archer on guitar, Mike Rowe on piano and Chris Sharrock on drums, all of them former Oasis bandmates, as well as Russell Pritchard on bass.
And yet, Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds is a bit far from Oasis and the days of the Britpop. The sound is more alternative, the album gets close to be a concept work, where the songs lead one onto the other and tell a story as a whole, with long, almost never ending syntonizer riffs.
Gallagher announced his new band less than two years after breaking out from Oasis. The intention was just to make an album and see where that would lead, but after the success of the band's first album in 2011 (the albums went platinum and was the 14th best selling album of 2011), the band has released three more studio albums: "Chasing Yesterday" (2015), " Who Built the Moon?" (2017) and "Council Skies" (2023).
During 2023 Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds started a UK tour, which will last until December, when it would move to Japan.
