This is really a simple story: a girl from rural Pennsylvania who wants to make it big in the music industry. So, she and her mother travel down south to Nashville, Tennessee, to try and catch the eyes of a country producer, or two. She records a few songs, gets noticed, and the rest is history. Well, not quite that simple, because we are talking about Taylor Swift.
Yes, she was born in rural Pennsylvania, and yes, she and her mother did travel to Nashville. But not many acts in the music industry sign a first record deal at the age of 14, not many acts get a top 40 hit at the age of 16, not many acts have 80 Billboard Hot 100-charting songs and not many acts have more than 20 top 10 hits.
The first single that Swift released, named "Tim McGraw", spent no less than eight months on the Billboard country singles chart. Her first album, named "Taylor Swift", was released when she was 16, sold over one million copies and became platinum. Swift's second album, "Fearless", sold half a million copies on its first week alone. The rest, really, was history.
Along the years, Swift moved from country into pop, electronic music, rock, folk and even alternative music. That hasn't slowed down her records sales, with over 200 million albums sold worldwide. Her 10th studio album, "Midnights", sold over 1.5 million copies in the first week after it was released, an incredible achievement considering Swift is the most streamed artist. She thus has become the first artist to do so since, well, herself, with her "Reputation" album five years earlier. "Midnights" also became the most single-day streamed album on Spotify.
Up to date, Swift has released 10 studio albums and four live albums. She has won, among others, 12 Grammy Awards, eight Academy of Country Music Awards, 19 American Music Awards and 30 Billboard Music Awards.
As of 2023, Swift has embarked on the North American and worldwide The Eras Tour, which would see her perform in stadiums in the United States, as well as shows in Mexico, Argentina, Brazil, Japan, Australia, Singapore, France, Sweeden, Portugal, United Kingdom, Ireland, the Netherlands, Switzerland, Germany, Italy, Poland, Austria and Canada between August 2023-November 2024.
